🗣️ Pep Talks

Pep Talks are a match preparation tool. They let you give one player a short speech before a match, with the chance to lift or hurt that player depending on what you write.

What a Pep Talk can do

A Pep Talk can move a player rating from -5 to +5 for the next few matches. The result depends on how well the speech fits the player, their role and the match situation.

A strong Pep Talk is usually specific. It gives the player a clear job, uses football language and fits what you need from them. A generic team-talk line can still be positive, but it is less likely to create a big boost.

Condition cost

Committing a Pep Talk costs 5% condition for that player. The preview in the modal shows the condition before and after the talk, for example 20% → 15%.

Check this carefully. If a player is already tired, the Pep Talk can push them closer to the injury-risk range. Injury risk starts when a player finishes a match or training at or below 60% condition.

Limits

Current Pep Talk limits are:

• Maximum 200 words
• One Pep Talk per player, per season
• One Pep Talk per club every 24 hours
• The 24-hour cooldown starts from the moment you give your last Pep Talk

How the effect fades

Positive boosts fade by 1 rating every 48 hours until they return to 0. Negative hits recover by 1 rating every 24 hours, so a bad talk is not permanent.

The game will show the rating impact and a short feedback note after analysis. Use that feedback to learn what worked.

What makes a good Pep Talk

Good Pep Talks usually include:

• The player’s role or position
• A clear instruction, such as hold shape, win second balls, keep tempo or attack space
• The match context, such as protecting a lead, settling early or targeting an opponent weakness
• A tone that suits the player rather than empty hype

Example:

Stay calm early, show for the simple pass and keep our right side secure. If their winger gets tight, force him outside and make the first tackle count.

That is more useful than simply saying “do your best”, because it gives the player a football job.

What to avoid

Avoid vague speeches, abuse, random instructions, or anything that does not help the player understand their role. Pep Talks are not a magic button. They reward useful management. Very Footium, annoyingly.
